Slovenia Customs Guide: Importing and Exporting Personal Effects

Removal goods

Documents Required
  • SLOVENIAN citizens:
  • Passport copy.
  • BL / AWB / CMR
  • Inventory.
  • Shipper's Slovenian Tax number.
  • Registration of residence in Slovenia.
  • A Statement issued by Slovenian Consulate, confirming that the shipper has lived outside EU more than 12 months. It must state dates of employment and termination.
  • In case Slovenian Consulate is not available such Statement is accepted if issued by shipper's Employer abroad
  • A letter signed by the shipper that he will live in Slovenia, all the goods are in his possession or used more than six months and that he did not import other households or personal effects in last 12 months.
  • EU citizens:
  • Passport.
  • BL / AWB / CMR
  • Inventory.
  • Registration of residence in Slovenia.
  • A Statement issued by shipper's Employer abroad confirming that the shipper has
  • lived outside EU more than 12 months. It must state dates of employment and termination.
  • A letter signed by the shipper that he will live in Slovenia, all the goods are in his possession or used more than six months and that he did not import other households or personal effects in last 12 months.
  • NON-EU citizens:
  • Passport.
  • BL / AWB / CMR
  • Inventory.
  • Slovenian ID
  • Statement from Slovenian employer confirming that the shipper will be employed with them.
  • Registration of residence in Slovenia.
  • A letter signed by the shipper that he will live in Slovenia, all the goods are in his possession or used more than six months and that he did not import other households or personal effects in the last 12 months.
  • STUDENTS:
  • Letter from University confirming student's status.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Tax-free import is only possible within 12 months after arriving / returning to Slovenia (EU).
  • All the goods intended for import must be declared to customs upon first import customs clearance.
  • Goods must not be sold, hired, lent or otherwise disposed within 12 months after importation.
Remarks
  • In case the letter from a third party confirming that shipper has lived outside EU is not available, other documents not specified but clearly proving living outside EU are acceptable.
  • Sometimes Customs may require also other documents like rental contract, copy of employment contract and others.
  • If shipper cannot present all requested documents contact your FIDI agent (for possibilities to release the goods from Customs).

Diplomatic Moves

Documents Required
  • Inventory.
  • BL / AWB / CMR
  • Diplomatic ID.
  • Duty and Tax Exemption Certificate issued by Slovenian Ministry of Finance.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Import of alcohol and tobacco products is allowed for diplomats but limited to three months (quarterly) quota agreed by Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the respective Embassy.
Remarks
  • Copy of Passport is acceptable in case Diplomatic ID is not yet available
  • If shipper cannot present complete import documents contact your FIDI agent (for possibilities to release the goods from Customs).

Cars, motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, boats

Documents Required
  • Same documents as for import of households plus:
  • Purchase invoice.
  • Car's documents from country of purchase or export.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Tax on Motor Vehicles (DMV) is applicable. Varies from 0.5 – 41% (cars), 1,5-10% (motorcycles) of Eurotax value depending on type of fuel, engine power, and CO2 emissions. DMV is partly refundable upon export.
Remarks
  • Clearance is separate from removal goods.
  • After clearance, technical examination is required to obtain Certificate of Homologation (Potrdilo o skladnosti) needed for registration.

Unaccompanied air baggage

Documents Required
  • Passport copy.
  • Inventory with value.
  • AWB
Remarks
  • Only for shipments arriving by air (NOT road) containing only clothes and small amounts of other items for personal use.
  • In case technical/electronic/kitchen items are included we need same documents as for import of HHE.

Wedding Trousseaux

Documents Required
  • Passport.
  • BL / AWB / CMR
  • Inventory.
  • Certificate of marriage.
  • Registration of residence in Slovenia.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Alcohol, tobacco, foodstuff cannot be imported as part of households.

Inheritance

Documents Required
  • Death Certificate.
  • Copy of the will or Statement from the Court.
  • Beneficiary's ID and tax number.

  • Alcohol, tobacco, foodstuff cannot be imported as part of households.

Antiques, artworks

Documents Required
  • Import permit issued by Cultural Ministry.

New items

Documents Required
  • Purchase invoice.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Subject to customs duty and VAT. Current VAT is 22%.

Alcohol, tobacco, foodstuff

Documents Required
  • List of beverages with description.
Customs Prescriptions
  • Customs duty, VAT and excise duty are applicable for import of alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
  • Import of wine is limited to 100 litres.
  • Small amounts of foodstuffs can be imported as part of removal goods.
Remarks
  • Alcohol and tobacco cannot be imported as part of removal goods.
  • Small amounts of foodstuff for personal use can be imported as part of removal goods.

Arms and ammunition

Documents Required
  • Import permit is necessary.
  • Gun and hunting licence.
Remarks
  • Must be declared separately, special inspection is required.

Drugs

Customs Prescriptions
  • Import prohibited.

Solid wood packing material

Customs Prescriptions
  • According to EU regulations all imported solid wood packaging must carry the ISPM15 mark indicating that all the timber has received appropriate treatment.
