Shipping new and used furniture from Shanghai to Los Angeles, USA
Service Route: Shanghai to Los Angeles
Service Mode: Door-to-door full-service moving
Case Overview: Mr. Meng entrusted Seapoe to ship his old furniture along with new furniture he bought online from Shanghai to his new home in Los Angeles.
Mr. Meng is a Chinese immigrant living in Los Angeles. He had quite a bit of old furniture at his Shanghai home that had been used for years—good quality and full of memories, so he didn’t want to get rid of it. Meanwhile, he had also bought some new furniture online in China and wanted to ship it all together to his new place in LA.
At first, he considered two options: Ship only the old furniture and buy new stuff in the US—but American furniture is expensive. Or reverse-haul only the new furniture and sell the old one locally—which didn’t feel worth it. Then he learned that Seapoe could combine pickup of his old furniture with consolidated collection of his new items. Plus, 22 cubic meters qualified for group shipping, which made the price more attractive. So he went with Seapoe.
1. Pickup + Consolidated Collection
Our team went to Mr. Meng’s Shanghai home, professionally packed all the old furniture on-site, and shipped it straight to the Seapoe warehouse. Meanwhile, his new furniture—ordered from various domestic sellers—arrived at the warehouse one after another. We provided free receipt and storage, checking quantities and outer packaging for every parcel. Any issues found were immediately communicated to Mr. Meng and resolved with the sellers.

2. Unified Reinforcement Packing
Once all the old and new furniture was in, we had our professional crew do a second round of reinforcement packing. The old items got an extra layer of protection in the warehouse on top of the on-site packing. The new furniture was packed according to type—solid wood pieces got four layers of protection: foam, corner protectors, cardboard, and more cardboard. Every step was photographed for records.

3. Group Shipping Customs Clearance & Ocean Freight
After packing, Mr. Meng’s shipment was consolidated into a container along with other customers’ items from the same group. Our customs team prepared the paperwork in advance and handled export clearance—Mr. Meng didn’t need to do anything. Once cleared, the shipment was booked on the next available westbound route to LA. Real-time tracking was available throughout, so Mr. Meng could always see where his belongings were.
4. US Customs Clearance & Delivery
As the shipment neared the Port of Los Angeles, our customs team prepped all clearance documents and managed the US import process to ensure fast release. After clearance, a local LA delivery team transported the items to Mr. Meng’s home in a dedicated truck, carried everything inside, unpacked and placed it, and then removed all packing debris.

Mr. Meng was very satisfied with the whole experience. He said he’d initially worried about the hassle of handling old and new furniture separately, but Seapoe made it a one-stop solution. And at 22 cubic meters via group shipping, the price was a great deal. All costs combined were less than half of what he would have paid buying new furniture in the US—plus he got to keep using his beloved old pieces. Really worth it.
