Case Overview: Ms. Sun entrusted Seapoe Relo with shipping her piano from Shanghai to Japan by sea

Moving a whole household to Japan — the real headache isn't packing bags. It's the piano your kid has played for over a decade. Ms. Sun relocated to Japan with her son this year. The boy had grown attached to that instrument, and the thought of something happening to it during the sea freight kept her up at night. She approached several moving companies, but none seemed experienced enough with pianos. Eventually she found Seapoe.

So what's the trick to shipping a piano overseas? Here's a peek at how we packed it up.

The crew started with a layer of thick cardboard on the floor — basic protection against ground moisture and bumps. Then the entire piano body got wrapped in one continuous sheet of dense foam padding, corners taped down tight with specialized adhesive strips. After that came multiple rounds of clear stretch wrap, worked into every seam until nothing was exposed. Finally, all corners and edges received custom-cut hard cardboard shields — fitted right to the piano's shape, no gaps. Once back at the warehouse, it went into a tailored wooden crate. By the end of the whole process, that piano was sealed up so well you could probably drop-kick it and it'd be fine. Sea freight bumps? Not a worry.

When the piano arrived in Japan, Ms. Sun could finally relax. That instrument gets to keep being part of her son's life for years to come.
